Refried beans

Yield: 3-4 servings
Cook Time: 10 minutes
Total Time: 25 minutes

A great side dish for any Mexican meal.


  • 2 cans of cooked beans
  • 1/4 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup broth (or water)


  • 1/4 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp. cumin
  • 1/4 tsp. pepper
  • Salt, to taste


  1. Drain beans. Add to a saucepan along with remaining ingredients and spices. Cook on medium-high (6) heat for 5-6 minutes, covered.
  2. Remove lid and mash with a potato masher. Continue simmering and mashing until desired consistency, ~3 more minutes. Season to taste.
  3. If desired, allow to cool slightly and blend with food processor.
