When I think of a classic American dinner, this is what comes to mind.

  • 2-10 oz. ribeye steaks
  • 3-4 medium potatoes, peeled
  • 1/2 lb. green beans

  1. Rinse steaks and pat dry. Preheat skillet to medium (5) heat.
  2. Once hot, lightly coat skillet with oil. Add steaks, and season with salt and pepper. Allow to cook for 3-7 minutes per side, depending on desired doneness.
  3. Allow to rest for 3-5 minutes before serving.

Mashed potatoes

  1. Bring enough water to a boil to cover the potatoes well. In the mean time, peel and roughly cut potatoes into medium pieces.
  2. Once potatoes are cut, add to boiling water, along with ~2 tsp. of salt. Boil on medium-low (3) heat until fork tender. Drain and return to pot, reserving ~1/4 c. of cooking liquid.
  3. Add cooking liquid, along with salt and seasonings. Mash until desired consistency, adding milk or water, if needed.

Green beans

  1. Cut ends off of all green beans. Boil over medium (4) heat until starting to become tender, ~4-6 minutes. Drain, then pat dry. In same skillet used for steaks, sauté green beans until desired texture. Add salt or other seasonings, to taste.
